Beth Bartlick of Plainville has lost 35 POUNDS working with her Trainer Cary at Big Sky New Britain.  She was kind enough to answer some questions for us and share her story:

Q.  First of all, how did you end up finding Big Sky?

A.  I live in the area so I knew you were here. I saw an ad and then asked a friend who goes to the Big Sky in Vernon her thoughts about the gym.

Q.  What was your primary goal and why was that important to you?

A.  I wanted to get back in shape and feel like I was healthy again. I also wanted to lose weight but I didn’t have a number in mind.  When I joined I had basically stopped exercising and just didn’t feel good.  I felt like I wasn’t healthy and didn’t feel like myself.  I’ve done some form of exercise for most of my life but I had hit a time where I felt my worst and wanted to feel better.  My own desire to feel better got me to sign up, but it’s working with Cary that’s been a major motivator to keep going. 

Q.  By when did you hope to reach your goals?

A.  I didn’t set a hard date, but I did have a big birthday coming up that was a bit of a goal, and I also had my nephew’s wedding in Punta Cana coming up.

Q.  How did you accomplish your goal?

A.  It’s taken focus and accountability. I track exercise and calories.  I repeat the workouts that I do with Cary on my own during the week and I run 3-5 miles 3-4 times per week.  I’ve told myself “This is the new normal.” 

Q.  Do you have any advice you would like to share with others who are just starting out?

A.  You have to think of it as a lifestyle change. Stay focused and pay attention to diet and exercise. And know that one bad day (or even bad week) won’t hurt – just get right back to it.
