Hi! My name is Katie Robbins and I’m a team member at Big Sky in Newington. I’m participating in the Trailblaze Challenge for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Connecticut, and I need your help!
I will be hiking 30 miles in one day (yes, 30 miles!) in order to raise funds and awareness for this incredible organization. As many of you know, Make-A-Wish is an organization that grants wishes to children battling life threatening medical conditions including cancer, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy and organ transplant. Dozens of wishes are granted every day, and the sky is the limit for our wish kids! A wish could be a trip to Disney World, going to the Super Bowl, a birthday celebration in Paris, being Batman for a day or even meeting Taylor Swift!! I also work as a child life specialist at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. A child life specialist prepares children for procedures, provides diagnosis education, and normalizes the hospital environment through play. As a child life specialist, I work very closely with the Make-A-Wish Foundation by referring many of my patients to have their wishes granted. I work with these kids every day and have witnessed firsthand the negative impact that multiple trips to the hospital can have. In turn, I have also seen the wonderful and positive impact that Make-A-Wish has on the lives of these courageous children.
I am reaching out to you all for support because I believe in the power of a wish! I am training all summer to complete this hike on October 1st, 2016! My goal is to raise $4,000. All funds raised stay in Connecticut and go directly to making our kids wishes come true! Big Sky has joined in and is donating $1,000 in support of this great cause.
