Coconut Oil, Your New BFF!!

Your new BFF has many amazing qualities!  Who would have thought that this gem could do so many wonderful things?  You can basically use coconut oil for almost anything!

You may have already made the switch to coconut oil in the kitchen, but did you know this is like a mini Sephora in a jar (and for a lot less money!) This do-it-all ingredient can be used to moisturize skin and remove makeup, but that’s just the beginning.

There are two main types of coconut oil.  Refined, this type of coconut oil doesn’t smell or taste like coconut.  The refining process takes out some of its nutrition, so while it’s useful, it isn’t as effective as unrefined.  Unrefined, also called “virgin”.  This hasn’t gone through the refining process so it still smell and tastes like a Hawaiian vacation!  Try to look for non-GMA organic virgin coconut oil.

The list truly is endless on what you can do with coconut oil.  Here are just a few of the health and beauty benefits:

Hair Mask hair mask

Coconut oil is a creamy solid at room temperature, and turns to liquid when heated to 76°F. While in the shower, melt your coconut oil by running the jar under the warm water. Then, after shampooing, apply a generous amount of the oil to wet hair and twist into a bun. Let it sit for at least five minutes before rinsing.

Or for super moisturized hair leave in overnight. Your hair will look and feel amazing!

It’s also a Frizz fighter!  Rub a pea size amount of coconut oil between your fingers to warm it up, and then apply it to the bottom couple inches of your hair for all day frizz protection. If you have thicker, coarser hair, apply the coconut oil from mid-shaft to ends for added frizz control. You’ll be amazed!  Added bonus, it also leaves hair extra shiny and soft!

Body Moisturizer

Coconut oil’s creamy texture makes it the perfect light moisturizer to slather all over. Apply after you get out of the shower so it can sink into your warm skin.

Body Scrub

Mix a half cup of sea salt or sugar with an equal amount of melted coconut oil, and then use your hands to rub it over your body. The scrub moisturizes while removing dead skin cells. Can we say skin that’s baby soft?? Add a little more salt or sugar for the extra tough skin on your feet and elbows.

Make up Remover Benefits-Of-Coconut-Oil-On-Skin

Coconut oil is cheaper than cleansing wipes or store-bought makeup remover, it works better, and once again it smells like a tropical vacation!

Shaving Cream

Better than the stuff in a can!! Coconut oil to the rescue! Just warm the jar under the water and smooth onto legs before shaving. Your razor will glide smoothly, allowing for a super-close shave, and your legs will be moisturized from the oil in the process.  Careful not to get the oil on the bottom of the tub or the shower floor.

Teeth Whitener

It takes a little time but swishing a spoonful for 20 minutes a day gives you that dazzling Hollywood smile.  Added bonus, fresher breath and healthier gums!!

Cooking  coconut oil

Coconut oil is great for cooking at a high heat because of its high smoke point.  Many oils, such as olive oil, can oxide when heated.

Give to Your Pets

Your pets need lots of fat and nutrients to stay happy and healthy. Giving them a bit of coconut oil every day can lead to shinier fur, healthier skin, and better digestion.  Tip – put some coconut oil on your legs, dogs love to lick this off.  It’s been tested!
