Cassandra’s success story

Big Sky New Britain Member Cassandra Huchko has had amazing results working with her Trainer Maggie. Here’s her story, in her own words:

When I signed up with Big Sky several years ago, I was at a low. I was single, my father had passed away, and I was really heavy for my height. My doctor at the time told me that I would be having problems if I didn’t take some kind of action and start taking care of my health. There’s a history of heart disease in my family and I soon developed high blood pressure (now controlled), high cholesterol (also now controlled), and diabetes (now definitely controlled by diet). My cardiologist is so pleased with my results, and especially pleased with the fact that I’m exercising.

Before joining Big Sky I had actually started at another gym, but I didn’t get the encouragement there that I needed. So one day I stopped by just to talk to someone. I didn’t want to be a body builder (after all, I am in my 70s now!) but cassandra beforeI really wanted to start feeling better. 

Since joining Big Sky, every one of the Trainers that I’ve worked with has known that I’ve wanted to improve my health and that’s what they focused on with me. Before Big Sky I never really liked to exercise, but now I know that’s what I need to do to keep me balanced. I know I’m getting stronger because I can finally do squats without very much effort. I actually look forward to my two sessions a week with my Trainer Maggie!

Maggie has me working on my diet using MyFitnessPal. I installed the app on my phone which makes it easier for me to log my meals and snacks each day. MyFitnessPal is GREAT! I also got myself a FitBit Activity Tracker and track my steps, my stairs, and other activities. Because I can see what I’m doing, I find that I’m challenging myself more and more.

A few days ago, I met my old doctor who I hadn’t seen in nine years. He remembered me and made a remark that I looked great! He said that my complexion looked better and that it looked like I was doing something about my weight. When I heard that, I was so proud of what I’ve done so far! 

Someone once told me that “there’s no such word as can’t.”  At the time I didn’t believe them, but now it’s true. I really feel that Big Sky, my Trainer Maggie, and really all the Trainers at Big Sky are such positive people and that’s contagious. So, whatever you do, don’t give up. You can always accomplish your goals!
